Or maybe this is the best hockey goal ever...

The best hockey goal ever?

This goal by Alexander Ovechkin may just be the best goal I've ever seen scored. I'm not sure there is another player in the NHL who scores this one.

90s Hip-Hop Nostalgia Moment: Chubb Rock "Treat Em Right"

Gotta love this track. I remember 7th grade dances where I got down to this. Good times.

"Nineteen ninety/Chubb Rock jumps up on the scene/With a leanAnd a pocket full of green/The green doesn't symbolize I made it on the top/But RoboCop last year was a shock"

The future of YouTube: Interactive Games

Just when you think you have a handle on technology, some new shit comes out:

YouTube’s ability to embed links and annotations within videos is leading new forms of interactivity.

Take, for instance, a new 30-level “Spot the Difference” game based on the Oscars (start playing by watching the video above). By highlighting areas of the frame and linking those to different videos, YouTube user “copyrighthater” has put YouTube to a use that might never have been anticipated. The question: will these “YouTube games” ever be more than passing fads?

Durex Get it on commercial

Did they really show this on TV? A bunch of condoms fucking seems strangely rated R to me. Hilarious, of course. But not something I thought they could show on the air.

The One That Started It All: Barack Obama at the 2004 DNC Convention

In honor of our new president, I thought I'd post the one that started it all: Barack Obama's 2004 Democratic National Convention Speech.

I remember just moving to New York and watching the convention on my tiny TV in my new apartment in Washington Heights. I had no idea who he was. But as I watched his speech, I knew I was seeing something special. I called about 3 people afterward and asked if they just saw what I saw. No one had. "This guy will be president real soon," I told them. I didn't expect it 4 years later, but I knew it would happen.

It is still my favorite speech of his, and it's probably my favorite speech of all-time. Why? "The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too." Yes, I am a skinny kid with a funny name as well. I had grown up feeling that there was a White America and my America, which would always been inferior in the eyes of our society. But this was the first time, someone-- a politician nonetheless-- spoke directly to the America I grew up in and made me believe in that old American myth that anything was possible in this country. Amen to that.

Barack Obama Baltimore Inauguration Speech

What a badass speech. Obama has a way of connecting the idealistic history of America with the present in a way only a few presidents-- maybe Lincoln, Kennedy, FDR and Reagan-- can. Know hope baby.

No Pants Subway Ride

A New York tradition returns. Every year I see the video, and every year I think it's funny, and every year I decide I'm going to try it next year but forget to sign up. Maybe next year...

Scenes from The Wire: Snoop buys a nail gun

I am going to start posting great scenes from "The Wire," because as I've said before, it's the best show ever created.

Anyway, here is a great one from Season 4, where Snoop buys a nail gun. It's kind of a quirky, throw-away moment, but it's also reminder of why the "The Wire" is so great... even the throw-away moments are brilliant.

Star Wars Holiday Special

After the success of Star Wars in 1977, which broke numerous box office records, was nominated for a bunch of Academy Awards including Best Picture and changed the culture landscape forever, George Lucas began his long descent into crass marketing and commercialism.

His first step down that path? 1978's Star Wars Holiday Special, maybe the worst two hours in television history. Here's a clip below. It's so, so awful, it's actually pretty hilarious.

Iraqi Journalist Throws Shoe at George Bush

I've been a little slow on the uptake lately because of massive amounts of school work, but I couldn't pass up posting this. It starts about 45 seconds in. Hilarious.
