Breakout Stars of 2008

I'm probably not posting a lot today on account of it being New Years Eve and all, but here's one think that's worth a look: it's the Breakout Stars of 2008 on Daily Beast. Two of my favorites-- David Plouffe and Nate Silver-- made the list.

Barack Obama is Time Magazine's Person of the Year

(I've been pretty busy, so I haven't been posting all that much, but I will be on vacation soon, so I hope to post a lot more then)

In a huge shocker, Time Magazine has named Barack Obama it's Person of the Year. Obviously any year where you elect the first African-American president is historic and very important, as I've said many a time.

But by making the most obvious choice, you're also making the most boring choice as well. How about someone like David Plouffe, who was almost nonexistent in the media, but helped create one of the great campaigns in presidential history? Or maybe Miley Cirus for her continuing enrichment to pop music? Any other thoughts out there?

Obama's Inner Circle on 60 minutes

I caught this the other day on 60 minutes, and I was impressed by David Axelrod, David Plouffe, Robert Gibbs and Anita Dunn. It's hard not to be. They are all such calm, cool and collected characters just like their candidate, I guess.

What struck me the most was how often they deferred to what a great candidate they had and how none of this would have been possible without him. I think that gets lost in the media narrative a lot of the time-- Barack Obama is the shit.

He's easily the best Democratic Presidential Candidate since Bobby Kennedy. And maybe the best since FDR. We'll see what kind of president he'll be though.
